"Willard suitcases" is an ongoing project of photographer Jon Crispin. All these suitcases photographed by Crispin, were found in the storage room of Willard asylum back in 1995. They belong to the asylum's patients who entered the institute between 1910-1960 being mentally ill and that's why they never left and their suitcases were still stored. Jon Crispin in collaboration with "The New York State Museum" started to photograph them last October. It is extremely interesting and deeply emotional to take a look at those people suitcases back then. Their life in a small box.

My generation was lucky to be present at the genesis of internet several years ago. Internet was an unknown word and it was something that you could not put it in a box and take it in your hands. No one could imagine the meaning of it and what it could really do. I am so grateful for internet. I never thought I would be in so many ways, but living in an unapproachable area like a small cycladic island is not always easy. Through internet I work, learn, watch, listen, communicate. And get inspired of course. I am so happy to discover new and fresh things everyday and I know the findings are endless. Today I love StyleCookie. Fantastic collection of products photographed together, consisting a lovely puzzle of colors and shapes. Their aesthetics meet my taste in so many ways! Enjoy :)

I love participating in Craft Fairs, especially this wonderful season of the year. So, Etsy Greek Street Team organizes 2 of them this December, one at Pure Bliss on 2-4 of December and the other at ParaPera on 12-18 of December. I will be participating at ParaPera, as the one at Pure Bliss is a bit early for me as I am going to be still on the island, getting ready for the other! Plus, Les Broderies Anglaises organize their Xmas Feast on December 17-21 at Ginger Ale and I will participate too from 19-21. Birthday Girl

I am one of those people who only celebrate birthdays and not having a name day. Which means I belong to the minority here in Greece that celebrate once a year. This fact makes today a really special day which I look forward every year. I don't mind growing old at all. The inner child in me dances hula all the time :) I enjoy the fact that every single day I learn something new. And as Emily Dickinson says: "We turn not older with years, but newer every day".

A love elixir at Monpellier :)

Yesterday a big surprise was waiting for me! One of my lovely customers, Catherine who had ordered a pedestal a few months ago to put it as a cake topper on her wedding cake, sent me some photos of the wedding. Everything look fantastic! Yayyyyy :) I love Monpellier, the colors and the fun all guests and happy couple had! Thank you Cat :)

My creative space

Recently, I decided I needed more space in my craft room, as my work has increased , a lot more than 6 months ago. So, small fellas, wooden toys, tin toys had to move. Of course, I had already done the proper conversation with them, to explain the situation. They agreed to move next to the vinyl section (the library where we keep our records) in the living room. Although living room has no more room for stuff, is the only place they could go. I believe it suits them better, as my Caslon letterpress machine keeps them company :) Lucky them! I also moved the things a bit around in the house, just to give the impression of change.

Yesterday I discovered this fantastic aussie shop via Tabitha Emma. The styling of the photos and products is so gorgeous. Rustic and whimsy, a bit romantic but also playful. I could write all day on these amazing sets :) As the two owners say: "write to me is a boutique stationery and homeware company created by sisters anna and nicoletta constanti. each product is designed, hand printed and crafted in our little melbourne studio. we know how convenient todays means of written communication is - emails, text messages, facebook - (we do use it ourselves!) however the original concept of our creation is to get people to write to each other in the old fashion way".

Re-charge and Re-start

Well, hello all! After a long and busy summer, I am back! :) So glad to be able to find time and post again! The island was full again this summer, especially during August. "Box in a box" exhibition went really good, a lot of positive energy and impressions! I managed to get some rest last week, re-charge my batteries and clear my mind to receive new ideas for this winter.
I hope you like my first autumn post presenting the work of Valero Doval, a Spanish collage artist.
His work is so inspired, odd, creative and funny :) It puts a smile on my face!

"Box in a Box" poster

"Box in a box" is a gallery/exhibition incorporating several fresh ideas about architecture, graphic design and crafts. It is located in a small traditional house in the Antiparos castle, an historical and traditional settlement. Dafni Papaioannou (architect) and I, present our work in the aim of lending a fresh touch of artistic expression to this neglected fortified settlement. Our exhibition will last until the end of August and you can find us there everyday from 20:00 until 24:00!

My creative space

This week, among other things, I decided to reorganize my ribbon stack. I keep them on a lime green repainted furniture. I used to have on the back a typographer's drawer, but truth is, that never suited me to use it as space for my stuff, but more like an exhibition of tiny treasures I kept since childhood. I loved that so much but after a year of working in this space, and after opening my online shop (meaning more work and raw materials) I need space in this room for putting my raw materials instead of decorating it with all my collections. So, to make long story short, I decided to transform little cute exhibitions into a live space of packed stuff BUT in a cute way :) This is how this spot of the room looks right now. More next week :)

Etsy Greek Street Team Summer Bazaar!

After the first and very successful xmas bazaar, the Etsy Greek Street Team organizes the 2nd bazaar "Geia sta xeria mas II" at Stavlos, Thisseio, Athens, Greece on June 3-4-5. Have you also heard of Etsy Craft Party? It is an event that occures in many communities worldwide! Date for Etsy Craft Party is June 10th but we are really close to celebrate ours on June 3rd at Stavlos during our bazaar!

Several workshops will take place, using a lot of materials like polymer clay, paper, fabric, metal showing DIY crafts along with recycling hints and tips! You don't want to miss it!

The 38 participants (actually 40 but photos are for the 38 of them) that presented here in alphabetical order are members of the EGST at the most. Everyone is invited to come and join the most fresh and summery craft fair!

Supermarket Sarah's Walls

I had discovered Sarah a long time ago and I was surprised by her imagination and aesthetics. She used to transform her living room walls into a live exhibition of objects and clothes she was selling. Later on they were known as "Sarah's walls". As you can find in her "About" section on her site:

"Sarah's "walls" started in her living room but have now spread into public spaces; galleries, shop fronts, bars, receptions and most recently Sarah curated a 30ft high wall at Selfridges London Concept Store.
The walls have taken on collaborative formats and so far Sarah has worked with brilliant designers including Fred Butler, Patternity, Donna Wilson, Tatty Devine and many more, forming a super network of young talent. Supermarket Sarah has become the place to go for inspirational delights and is regularly featured in media across the board from Style Bubble to the BBC news".

As I was reading Frankie mag this morning I stepped on Sarah again. I thought I would share some walls with you :)

Kontor Kontur color collections!

I love collecting things, I already have some collections waiting to grow up :) Mostly children stuff, I will post them here sometime :) Today as I was surfing around poppytalk I discovered three amazing ladies. They are collaborating and creating ideas under the name "Kontor Kontur". As they say: "Kontor Kontur is a design collaboration working with details and concepts in Göteborg".
On the main page of their site there were some amazing color collections I am sharing here.

Such a great surprise this morning, to discover this brilliant artist! In my e-mail inbox, Design Sponge had a feature about Coralie and her wonderful work with Penguin books.
Coralie Bickford-Smith is a senior cover designer at Penguin Books, where she has created several series designs. She studied typography at Reading university and has recently been sharing her experience with
students at London College of Communication encouraging a sense of play in the process of design.

A dear friend today sent me the link of this fabulous photographer, Lori Nix. She creates herself the scenery in front of the camera and then she is taking pictures. Truly inspiring ones. As she says:

"I am often asked questions about the inspiration for my work as well as my working process. As a ‘non-traditional’ photographer (I construct my subject matter rather than go find it) people find it hard to grasp what exactly it is that I do. And the fact that it is all done in front of the camera, with no digital manipulation, adds its own set of challenges. Building materials, lighting, issues of scale and space all become significant when you are recreating the world on a table top. I've listed a few of the more frequently asked questions and my responses. Hope you enjoy."

Taking part to a bazaar was something new for me. It was my first time and I enjoyed it a lot!
Friends and relatives came by, I met some really awesome and talented girls there and it was an opportunity for me to check how my work affects people and what impressions they do have in real. Also, to see if my boxes and such behave nicely when they stand the one next to the other :)
All of them were pretty decent to each other I must say.

Chris Silas Neal is an illustrator and designer, born in Texas and raised in Florida and Colorado. His work has been published by a variety of magazines and book publishers and, has been recognized by Communicatin Arts, American Illustration, AIGA, Society of Illustrators, Society of Publication Designers, Type Directors Club, Print Magazine and Society of News Designers. He exhibits drawings at various galleries across the country. He currently works and lives in Brooklyn and teaches Illustration at Pratt Institute.

Winter -handmade goods- markets

Online markets was a thing I wanted to try since I opened my shop. I really liked the idea, being among others in this kind of exhibition. So, I did it and this winter you can find me at 2 lovely online markets for handmade stuff.

This morning I got super happy as I was going through my mail. Sweet Amalia from Art Memoirs by Amalia K gave me this award! It is blog's first award ever and I am really enjoying it. Woohoo!

Crafting the day - A 365 days Craft Project

It was just today, when I took a look at etsy blog, where Noah Scalin was sharing his experience of making something everyday and especially his project and book 365: A Daily Creativity Journal. I got so motivated of the idea of creating something everyday, that I decided to start a project myself. I already do stuff, but other days I reach the top of creativity and some others I rest at the bottom, waiting for ideas to fall from the sky. The idea of organizing and challenging my creativity sounded awesome, considering the fact that I want to make a lot of stuff this year.
Since I quit my job and life in Athens-Greece and moved to a small cycladic island-Antiparos with my husband, opening a small craft shop became my dream. It is difficult though to find a small space here without having to spend a fortune for rent and such. So I work at home, designing, crafting and selling online, participating in bazaars and hoping to reach my dream one day soon. Till then, I hope to stay on time for the project and enjoy it all the way long! So, in order to catch up with the dates and finish this project at December 31st, I will make some more stuff these days along with stuff I made since the 1st of January and post one for each lost day of 2011.
Some of the stuff I will make they will be available at my online shop while some others I will put them in a monthly basis give away! Once a week, I will share with you the procedure of one of the creations. Woohoo!
